Helen Rose Murphy was born April 4, 1911, in Wolfcreek Township, rural Anthon, Iowa, to Daniel and Mary Rosmond (Courtney) Murphy. She graduated from Mount St. Mary's Academy in Cherokee, Iowa, in 1929. She attended Morningside College and taught in country school for four years. In 1933, she married Dwight W. Davis of Onawa, Iowa. For four years, she owned and operated Helene's Beauty Shop in Moville, Iowa. In 1938, the couple took up residence in Sioux City. Dwight preceded her in death in 1995. For the past several years, she has been happily residing at Northpark Assisted Living in Sioux City. She was a longtime member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing music and was an accomplished pianist. She enjoyed all card games, especially bridge, and knitted and crocheted. She loved to travel, especially to Canada where many of her family immigrated. She is survived by four sons, Douglas D. Davis and his wife, Carol of Sioux City, Duane A. Davis and his wife, Linda of Dakota Dunes, S.D., the Rev. Daniel C. Davis, O.P. of West Lafayette, Ind., and Dennis L. Davis of South Sioux City; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews including a great-niece, Sherry (Kelley) Thomson. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ursula Kanok and Mary; a brother, Emmett; and an infant grandson, Patrick.
