Helen Erickson, age 91, of Griswold, Iowa and formerly of Cumberland, Iowa, passed away Monday, March 28, 2011 at the Griswold Care Center. . Helen Roselyn Landon was born May 4, 1919, six and 1/2 miles south of Cumberland, across the road from the Peterman log cabin. Her parents were J. B. (Jim) and Mary (McClain) Landon. She lived all her life in the Cumberland area graduating from the Maple Valley country school and the Cumberland High School. Helen took Christ as her Savior at the age of 15 and taught Sunday school class for nearly 40 years. On February 10, 1938, she was united in marriage to Clair Edwin Erickson in Atlantic, Iowa and three children were born to them: Jerry, Gary and Lila. They farmed in the same area for about 40 years, retiring on February 1, 1974. Helen attended the Lyman Gospel Hall. . She is survived by her daughter Lila Sheeres and husband Richard of Council Bluffs, IA; daughter-in-law DeLaine Erickson of Cumberland, IA; former daughter-in-law Karen Bissell of Atlantic, IA; seven grandchildren, Tammy Krummel and husband Denny, Jessica Cruse and husband Dylan, Erica Walling and husband Jason, Melissa Sanson and husband Steve, Amanda Powell and husband Brent, Michael Erickson and wife Jennifer and Marty Erickson and wife Paula; 15 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and two sisters, Veta and Wilma. . Helen was preceded in death by her husband Clair; two sons, Jerry and Gary; parents, Jim and Mary Landon; three brothers, Marvin, Harold and Ronald; and great grandson Cody Olsen. .
