Straube died in the Johnson County Hospital at Tecumseh Thursday, July 3, 1958 at the age of 80 years, 1 month and 4 days. She had been a wheel chair patient since 1950, and during the past year her health had gradually grown worse as complications of age added to the seriousness of her condition. On June 29 she was taken to the hospital and cared for there until she passed away. Helena Margaret, eldest daughter of Henry William Moenning and his wife Anna Rogge Moenning, was born May 29, 1878 at Oldenberg, Germany. She was educated in schools in Germany then in 1892 came with her parents to America and located on a farm two miles south and one west of Burr. On June 25, 1913 she was married to Wm. Straube at the home of her parents, Pastor Beckmann officiating. The Straubes went to housekeeping at Holbrook and lived there until 1941 when they located on a farm half way between Sterling and Burr. Mrs. Straube was considerate of family and friends and was held in high esteem by all who knew her. She was not only the oldest member of her family, but was also the last. Her brother, Wm. Moenning, preceded her in death on June 1. Besides her husband and son, Mrs. Straube is survived by her daughter-in-law and three grandchildren, Debra, Paul and Ruth Straube. When they lived out west the Straubes were members of St. Matthews church at Arapahoe; after moving back here they became members of Hope Lutheran church at Burr. It was there her funeral was held at two o'clock Monday afternoon, July 7. Catherine Beckmann was soloist and Mrs. Ade Juilfs was at the organ. Pastor Harold J. Meyer was in charge of the services, and Mrs. Straube was laid to rest in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were neighbors: Fred Ellig, Remmer Menninga, Alva Schoene, Marvin Benson, Harvey Horstman and Robert Salomons. Among those at the funeral were relatives and friends from Clarinda, Iowa, Douglas and Syracuse, Nebr. To the bereaved ones goes the sympathy of many friends.
