Description	:	Helene Olson, a retired third grade teacher, died Wednesday at her home here. She was 90. She taught at Fairview and Catherine Everett Elementary School in Modesto years ago. Her husband, Milford Olson was the principal of Downey High School in the late 1960's and early 1970's. Mrs. Olson had struggled with arthritis for years, but was healthy and active until about five weeks ago, when doctors said she had acute leukemia, her son said. Her husband, Milford Olson was the principal of Downey High School in the late 1960's and early 1970's. Mrs. Olson had struggled with arthritis for years, but was healthy and active until about five weeks ago, when doctors said she had acute leukemia, her son said. William Olson said his mother had a long and happy life. Mrs. Olson was born March 19, 1911, in Western Springs, Illinois. She spent part of her childhood in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, and came to Ceres in 1923. She graduated from Ceres High School, then earned degrees from Modesto Junior College and San Jose State University in the late 1930's and early 1940's.. She married and raised three boys, then worked as a teacher once her sons were out on their own. She taught for 11 years, and retired in 1965. She belonged to the California Teachers Association. Mrs. Olson belonged to the Persephone Guild, a women's group that raises money for scholarships and the Electa Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star, a women's group affiliated with the Masons. She was a member of Centenary Methodists Church, Modesto. Mrs. Olson is survived by her husband and children William Olson of Modesto, Richard Olson of North Bend, Oregon and Gary Olson of Riverside, and 12 grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Centenary United Methodist Church in Modesto. Services will conclude at the church. There will be no vistation. The Colonial Chapel of Franklin and Browns is in charge of arrangements. Rememberances may be made to Community Hospice, Modesto or Centenary United Methodist Church, Modesto.
