Helmuth was born on June 26, 1914, in rural Plainfield, Iowa, the son of August and Hilda (Bergmann) Brase. He was baptized on July 19, 1914 and later confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, Western Douglas, rural Plainfield. He attended country school in the Douglas Township, rural Bremer County. Read More	Helmuth Ernst Wilhelm Brase, 98, of the Shell Rock Care Center and formerly of rural Waverly, Iowa, died on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at the Shell Rock Care Center. Helmuth was born on June 26, 1914, in rural Plainfield, Iowa, the son of August and Hilda (Bergmann) Brase. He was baptized on July 19, 1914 and later confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, Western Douglas, rural Plainfield. He attended country school in the Douglas Township, rural Bremer County. Helmuth was united in marriage to E. Maxine Iserman on June 6, 1943, at Warren Church in Bremer County. He was a lifetime farmer in the Douglas Township area, retiring in 1979. He assisted his son Stephen for another 20 years following his retirement. He was a member of the Lutheran Brotherhood and the National Farmers Organization. He enjoyed organic farming, artistic welding, bird watching and feeding, and reading. He is survived by his wife, Maxine of Shell Rock, Iowa; a daughter, Paulette (Paul) Sands of Lake Delhi, Iowa; a son, Lynn (Sharon) Brase Fort Worth, Texas; a son Stephen (Lynn) Brase of rural Plainfield, Iowa; a daughter, Deb (Lawrence) Ray of Plainfield, Iowa; a son, Kevin (Pamela) Brase of St. Bonifacius, Minnesota, eight grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren, one sister, Gertrude (Elston)Boldt of Tripoli, Iowa; and two sisters-in-law, Pauline Brase of Tripoli, Iowa and Mardell Brase of Ionia, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Walter Brase, and Edgar Brase, a sister, Hilda Pothast and a brother in law, Lloyd Pothast. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 6, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church-Western Douglas, rural Plainfield, Iowa. Burial will be held in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Western Douglas. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home, Waverly and also for one hour prior to services on Friday at the church. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. John's Lutheran Church, Western Douglas or to Cedar Valley Hospice, Waverly.
