Description	:	COLUMBIA Henrietta Clare (Fleskes) Bernardy was born June 30, 1913, in Maple River (Carroll County), Iowa, to John and Marguerite ''Maggie'' Fleskes. She was raised and lived with her three brothers and two sisters, all deceased, in Mount Carmel, Iowa, until she married Louis S. Bernardy of Gilbertville, Iowa, on February 15, 1938. They started 51 years of their married life by farming near Fairbanks, Iowa. In 1945,, they moved to Mount Carmel, where they owned and operated the general store. Read More	COLUMBIA Henrietta Clare (Fleskes) Bernardy was born June 30, 1913, in Maple River (Carroll County), Iowa, to John and Marguerite ''Maggie'' Fleskes. She was raised and lived with her three brothers and two sisters, all deceased, in Mount Carmel, Iowa, until she married Louis S. Bernardy of Gilbertville, Iowa, on February 15, 1938. They started 51 years of their married life by farming near Fairbanks, Iowa. In 1945,, they moved to Mount Carmel, where they owned and operated the general store. In 1946, the family moved to Waterloo, Iowa, where they operated a place of business and raised their five children within St. Mary's Parish. In 1962, they built ''Louie's Inn'', a tavern and restaurant in Raymond, Iowa, and ran it until they retired in 1979. Three years after the death of her husband, Louis, in 1989, Mrs. Bernardy sold the family home in Raymond and moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, to be near her son, Dan, and his wife, Bernadette. She lived independently until the year 2001, when she moved to St. Anne's Retirement Home in Columbia, and remained there until her death on Tuesday, August 28, 2007, at age 95. Mrs. Bernardy is survived by four daughters and one son, Carolyn Bernardy (Ben Mayo) of Santa Rosa, Calif., Joyce Bernardy (Tom Larkin) of Coralville, Iowa, Jayne Bernardy of Jersey City, N.J., Lu Anne Amundson (Ted) of Hastings, Minn., and Dan Bernardy (Bernadette) of York; six grandchildren, Dan Metz (Monika) of Bloomington, Ill., Michelle Shechtman (David) of Pasadena, Calif., Nicole Dannehl (Bill) of York, Matt Bernardy (Jennifer) of Baltimore, Md., and Kari and Paige Amundson, both of Hastings, Minn.; and six greatgrandchildren, Alexandra, Gabrielle, and Avery Dannehl, Vincent and Niklaus Metz, and Ava Shechtman. A viewing will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday in the Chapel at St. Anne's Retirement Home, 3952 Columbia Ave., Columbia. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Paul Oye officiating. Burial will be in Eagle Center Catholic Cemetery, Iowa. The John W. Keffer Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 902 Mt. Rose Ave., York, is in charge of the arrangements.
