Description	:	On her obituary and also her death certificate it shows that he father is John Thomas. Her obituary and also her death certificate she she was born in Olathe, Kansas. Her death certificate does now list her mother. Informant was her Husband L B Crotchett. Her mother is in records with the name of Sarah A. Thomas. With John Thomas being her father. Sarah was only about 15 years old with Etta was born. It appears that Sarah may have been an unwed mother, and her father John Thomas was put on the records as being Etta's father, when infact he was her grandfather. Which is... Which is more than likely why she was adopted. The 1880 Census record and also the 1900 census both say she was born in Missouri. 1920 and 1930 census with her spouse, also show she was born in Missouri. 1880 Census shows her living with her grandfather whom is John Thomas and living in Missouri. Her mothers information states that her mother had always lived in Missouri, yet two of the documents state that Etta was born in Kansas. All records on her mothers side show the family was born in Missouri. On the census records it is showing she is living in Missouri not Kansas. So unsure why if all of her family on her birth mothers side was all in Missouri, unsure why she would have been born in Kansas. It is unsure at this time whom wrote her obituary. Her spouse is the one that signed her death certificate, so it is possible that she told him she was born in Olathe, Kansas. As there are no records that she was ever with her birth mother after the adoption. Her birth parents were John Thomas and Sara (unknown maiden name). Her birth parents have never been located, and they only appear on an adoption paper. The following obituary and her death certificate are the only two documents that state her fathers name. Etta, Thomas, daughter of John and Sarah Thomas, was born near Olathe in Johnson county, Kansas on October 8th, 1877. Departed this life on November 3rd, 1933, at the age of 56 years and 26 days. Being left an orphan at the age of eight years, she was then adopted by George and Mary Magers of Kansas City, Mo. Where she grew to young womanhood and where she also joined the Methodist church. On February 24, 1904, she was united in marriage to Leslie B. Crotchett of Louisburg, Kansas, where, they lived until 1907 when they moved to Sheridan county where she lived until her death. She was taken sick in August of 1930, from which she never fully recovered, although a constant sufferer for over three years she never complained. She leave to mourn her death her husband, and four daughters, Alice, Stella and Dorothy all of Hoxie, who were at the bedside at the time of her death, the other daughter, Leona and two grandchildren could not be located. Also a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Sunday at the Methodist church by Rev. O.G. Brown and Interment was made in the Hoxie cemetery.
