She was born in Germany, October 2nd, 1840 and when twenty years of age was married to John Kottwitz. Shortly after their marriage, in the year 1861, they set out for America their hopes and dreams of the future centered on that fair land of promise. They settled in Missouri, and for eighteen years lived there, rearing their family and reaping the benefits of their tolls. But their minds reached out to a land beyond, where habitations were scarce, where danger were many, but where rich soil, and boundless privileges offered untold wealth and happiness in later years. So they came with their children and what few belongings the could transport, and settled on the broad prairies. They erected their home and fenced in their land and began the forty-seven years of residence that marked them among the first settlers of what is now Blue Hill. But in those days there was no town here, and Hastings, their nearest trading point, an all day's juorney by horse and wagon was a mere settlement. That was in the year 1878. Together they saw the years fleeting by, saw the town spring up a short two miles southwest of their homestead, saw more and more settlers come, saw chruches and schools organized and stores started, to make and keep the town going. In the years that passed seven of their eleven children were taken, and twenty years ago the father, John Kottwitz followed them in death. The spirit of the poineer in her viens, she would not leave her homestead home, and despite entreaties of her children she lived there until she received the summons that called her to ther Home on High. She passed away suddenly, while preparing her supper, Friday evening and was found by relatives only a few minutes later. Death was thought to instantaneous. Her age was 85 years and 14 days. She is survived by two daughters and two sons, Mrs. F.C. Krueger, Mrs Chas. Schnase, Chas. Kottwitz and Julius Kottwitz, Sr., all of whom reside here. Thirty-three grand children and twenty-five children, also survive her. Funeral services were held at the Trinity Lutheran chruch Sunday afternoon at 2:30 0'clock and burial was made in the Lutheran cemetery.
