Big Timber Pioneer, May 7, 1931 "Word reached here Friday morning of the death in a hospital at Lethbridge, Can., of Mrs. J.B. Ross, better known locally as Mrs. Morton W. Ha[t]ch. Death came from cancer of the stomach, deceased having been in the hospital since Christmas. Sunday the husband, J. B. Ross, and daughter, Mrs. J. G. (Lucy) McInnis, arrived with the remains for burial in Mountain View cemetery between her first husband and a son, the latter having been buried here a year ago, in accordance with a request of deceased. Funeral services were held at the Episcopal church Monday morning by Rev. Frank Durrant of Red Lodge, many old friends attending. Musical numbers were furnished by Mrs. Dorman Kellogg, Mrs. George Kearney, H. H. Graff, and Sigurd Strand. Pallbearers were Selvmer H. Solberg, Will Churchhill, Alva L. Lamb, Floyd A. Bailey, Charles B. Lamb, and Stuart H. Nicholson. Deceased was born January 19, 1869, and came to Montana in 1887. A year later she married Morton W. Hatch, founder of the Timber Pioneer, and to the union, three children were born--two of whom are living--Mrs. McInnis, who resides at Coalhurst, Alta., and Tom Hatch of Cardston, Alta. Disposing of the Pioneer, Mr. Hatch was at Livingston as clerk in the Albemarle hotel, then in a similar capacity in Butte, where he died in 1899. Mrs. Hatch returned here and was with the Montana Trading Co. for some time as a bookkeeper, then removed to Canada where she was married in 1906 to Mr. Ross, who is now manager of the Sunshine Inn at Coutts. In addition, deceased leaves a brother, Harry L. Raiff of Columbus and other relatives in New York state. Following the funeral, Mrs. McInnis and Mr. Ross went to Columbus for a short visit taking the Tuesday train for their Canadian home." Correction to article - Henrietta went to Paonia, Delta County, Colorado to assist her aged parents in 1906. It was in Colorado that she met and married James B. Ross. After the deaths of Henrietta's mother and step father that same year, she and James emigrated to Alberta, Canada.
