Henry Faust, 74, prominent farmer and one of the oldest of Cherokee county's early settlers, died Sunday morning at 9 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Aaron Vanderhoff, of Elk township, Buena Vista county. Mr. Faust had been ill for several months. He was born in Centre county, PA, in 1856, and came to Cherokee county in the ‘60's, before the advent of the railroad. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon from the Methodist Episcopal church of Cherokee, with the Rev. M. P. Arrasmith officiating. Burial will be in Aurelia. Odd Fellows of Aurelia will have charge of the services at the grave. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Eva Vanderhoff, Alta; Mrs. Alta Waters; Cherokee, and Mrs. Lulu Bugh, Cherokee, and a son, Chester Faust of Storm Lake. Mr. Faust's wife died about ten years ago. Henry Albert Foust was born in Union county, Pennsylvania Nov 17, 1854 and passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Aaron Vanderhoff of Elk township, Buena Vista county, Aug 11, 1929. If he had lived until November he would have reached the age of 75 years. He came with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Foust, two brothers and two sisters, to Iowa in 1864. In 1869 his parents moved to Cherokee county and homesteaded on a farm in Pitcher township. He was of a family of eight children who have all preceded him in death, excepting one sister, Mrs. Clara Campbell of Cherokee, who survives him. Those who preceded him in death are Mrs. Angeline Wamsley, Jacob, William T. and three in infancy. He was married to Mary Jane Becker, Dec. 24, 1882, who preceded him in death in 1919.
