Page: 48 ------ Henry (3) Alward, son of Henry (2), b 1698-9 at Woodbridge; d. 1732-3 at Basking Ridge; md. abt. 1715 to Sarah Compton, dau. of John and Elizabeth (Mundy) Compton, b at Woodbridge Aug. 15, 1697. She md (2) by 1744, James Kelly of Westfield, and was living in 1753. (NJA 30:279; 32:66; DWV; 323). As "Henry Allwood Junr," his name is on the muster roll of Col. Farmar's militia regiment in 1715. On Dec. 23, 1730, as Henry Alward of Woodbridge, farmer, he sold to his bro. Joseph, for 86. pounds, all of his share of land inherited under their father's will, and moved to Somerset Co., where he bought a farm between Liberty Corner and Basking Ridge. (NYSH 1896:529; WbTR-Freeholder's Book, p. 241; LPVG:7). His will, July 27, 1732- May 12, 1733, is signed with a scrawl which seems to be "Henry Allward", and ment. "a very sore accident whereby my life is very much despaired of". It names three sons and refers to two unnamed daus. (NJW:35R). Children of Henry (3) Alward and Sarah Compton:  I. John(4), b about 1716; further record uncertain,m but see John (5), son of Henry (4).  2. Henry(4), b abt. 1718; md. Mary Cox; d. May 3, 1782.  3. (a daughter).  4. Anne, b 171- or 172-; md. ---------White; living 1782. (NJA 32:66; 35:16).  5. Daniel, b abt 1727; living in 1782. Perhaps the Daniel Alwood on tax list of Sandyston tp., Sussex Co. in 1774. (NJA 30:1928; 35:16; NJW:8aR; SuM B;x; NJPRO. [This is taken from page 288 of the Genealogies of New Jersey Families: From the Genealogical Magazine of New Jersey edited by Joseph R. Klett (originally printed in 1910)   Henry's gravestone was not located. He is placed her based on information in John Littell's book.
