Potthoff, 80, a retired farmer and organist at St. Augustine church here for 50 years, died Wednesday noon, May 28, 1980, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Augustine church at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 30. with the Rev. Leo Riesberg officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons: Craig Potthoff, Joe Rupiper, Don Potthoff, Scott Wright, John Potthoff and Dale Hinners. Kevin Wittrock will be lector; Jim and Alan Hinners and Mark Potthoff mass-servers; Julie Wright, Joan Hinners, Brad and Debbie Potthoff gift-bearers. Friends may call at the Twit Funeral Home in Carroll starting at 3 p.m. Thursday. Rosaries will be recited at 3:30 and 8 p.m., and a scriptural prayer service will be conducted at 8:45 p.m. Thursday. Survivors include his wife, the following children: Mrs. Ernest (Arlene) Rupiper, Carroll; Norbert Potthoff, Wall Lake; Mrs. Donald (Lois) Hinners, Manning; Mrs. Richard (Joyce) Wright, Carroll; Mrs. Danny (Carol) Rowedder, Carroll; Melvin Potthoff, Manning; and Merle Potthoff, Carroll; two brothers: Peter Potthoff, Halbur, and Ted Potthoff, Carroll; 34 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. He was preceded by three sisters and a granddaughter. Mr. Potthoff was born Dec. 9, 1899, at Halbur, a son of Theodore C. and Mary Eischeid Potthoff. He was married to Clementine Wittrock June 6, 1922, at St. Augustine church with the Rev. Schumiller officiating. He received his education in the Halbur-Roselle area and retired from farming in 1967 when the family moved into Halbur.
