He moved with his parents to Wisconsin, where he grew to young manhood. Then he moved to Iowa and from that state enlisted in the Civil War. He was in the 34th Iowa Co. B Volunteers. He served over three years and was with Sherman in his famous march to the sea, also with Grant. He was honorably discharged from the service in 1865. He moved with his parents to Wisconsin, where he grew to young manhood. Then he moved to Iowa and from that state enlisted in the Civil War. He was in the 34th Iowa Co. B Volunteers. He served over three years and was with Sherman in his famous march to the sea, also with Grant. He was honorably discharged from the service in 1865. When twenty-four years of age he was united in marriage to Lucy B. Elson of Warren County, Iowa. To this union nine children were born, five of whom preceded him to the better world. There are left to mourn their great loss four daughters: Mrs. Julia A. Fleharty, Seattle, Wash.; Mrs. Daisy M. Raper, Summerfield, Kan.; Mrs. A. B. Gilbert, Beatrice, Nebr.; Miss Faye Allen, Summrfield, Kan.; one brother in Lebanon, Kan., ten grandchildren and a host of friends. Mr. Allen with his wife came to Kansas in 1871 and homesteaded in Lincoln County, where they experienced the hardships incident to the early days in this country. He was a devoted Christian all his life, having united with the Methodist Church when a child. He was a kind and loving father and husband all thru life and was faithful to the last. He has made his home in Summerfield, Kan., since the death of his wife, five years ago. He departed this life February 4, 1924 at the age of *0 years, 4 months and 24 days. Services were held in Summerfield, Kan., and the body was brought to Edgar for interment beside his wife and children.
