Beebe of this city, died at his home eight miles north of this city, Monday night at 10:45 o'clock after a short illness with pneumonia. The sickness of four days, which ended with his death, was the third time during his eighty years of life that he had been sufficiently ill to require the services of a physician. He was a man widely known and respected in his section of the country, and was one of the very early settlers of the state. Henry Beebe was born in Addison county, Vermont, Aug. 5, 1823, and was united in marriage to Miss Adaline Curtis, of Vergennes, Vt., Oct. 18, 1843. With many others he went west to California, during the rush for gold in 1849, and remained there for about two years, being very successful. A short time after his return he moved with his family to Iowa, and settled in Clinton county, in 1853, when the present site of the city of Clinton was a corn field. During 1856 he spent about a year in Wisconsin, with a government surveying party, but on his return removed to Cedar Rapids where he remained until 1876, when he moved to Marshall county and purchased land in Taylor township where he has ever since lived. His wife, Mrs. Adaline Beebe, died five years ago. He is survived by three sons, Fred W., of Seattle; George H., of this city; and Edward J., of Taylor township. The funeral will be held at the home Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock. Rev. W. H. Scott officiating. The interment will be in the Green Mountain cemetery.
