Henry "Hank" Behrend Schoon was born November 24, 1903, near Pocahontas, IA. He was the son of Ben and Maria (DeWall) Schoon. Henry was of German decent. He attended country school in Lincoln Twp. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Pocahontas, IA. On January 22, 1928, Henry married Gertie DeWall at St. Peter Lutheran Church of Pocahontas, IA. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Pocahontas, IA. On January 22, 1928, Henry married Gertie DeWall at St. Peter Lutheran Church of Pocahontas, IA. The couple settled on their farm southeast of Pocahontas until 1970, when they moved into Pocahontas. In 1996, they moved to the Pocahontas Residential Care Center and in 1998, they entered the Pocahontas Manor. Gertie died in January of 1999. Henry was a lifetime member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Pocahontas, where he served on the council and choir for many years. He also served on the Lincoln Twp. school board. Survivors include his daughters, Doris (Robert) Ahlrichs of Pocahontas, IA; Louise (Lester) Hohensee of Verona, MO; and Margaret (Ronald) Ricklefs of Monett, MO; a son , Leroy Schoon of Verona, MO; 16 grandchilgren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by his parents; wife, Gertie in 1999; Brother, Bert Schoon in 1984; and sister, Jennie (Schoon) Joens in 1966.
