He is the husband of Doris Rippy Cloninger of the home. Born in Claremont, N.C., he was a son of the late Henry A. and Julia Estelle Busbee Cloninger. He is the husband of Doris Rippy Cloninger of the home. Born in Claremont, N.C., he was a son of the late Henry A. and Julia Estelle Busbee Cloninger. In addition to his loving wife of 71 years, Doris, he is survived by their son, H. Carlisle Cloninger, Jr. of Gastonia, N.C., and their grandson, Greg Pounders, of Lakeland, Fl. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by their daughter, Barbara Jean Pounders; two brothers - Kermit Cloninger and James Cloninger; and two sisters - Rachel Smith and Mary Boggs. Mr. Cloninger was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Claremont, N.C., for seventy years, and more recently, a member of Mt. Paran Baptist Church in Blacksburg, S.C. He retired from Laxton Construction, Charlotte, NC, in 1983. He proudly served in the U.S. Army Artillery and the U.S. Coast Guard. He was also proud of being a member of the 1936 Claremont High School Championship Basketball Team. He also enjoyed his antique car. The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 16, 2013, from 1-2:00 p.m., at Mt. Paran Baptist Church. A Celebration Of Life Service will begin at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Jay Clever officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. At other times, they will be at the home. You may remember Mr. Cloninger with memorials to Mt. Paran Baptist Church, 105 Mt. Paran Road, Blacksburg, S.C., 29702.
