He was a seventh generation descendant of Arthur Harris, one of the founders of Bridgewater, Mass. He was a seventh generation descendant of Arthur Harris, one of the founders of Bridgewater, Mass. Henry was the first name of his maternal grandfather, while Christopher was the first name of his paternal grandfather. Note that Savary's Supplement to the History of the County of Annapolis indicates (p. 75) that there was another Henry Christopher Harris, the son of Robert Laidley Harris and first cousin (father's brother's son) to the subject of this biography. Henry married Isabel Sweeney, the daughter of John and Elizabeth Sweeney, on 18 September 1873 in Annapolis Royal, Annapolis Co., N.S. Both resided at Bear River at the time of their marriage. Henry's occupation was a cabinet maker. At the time of the 1881 Census, Henry and Isabel were living at Sandy Cove, Digby Co., N.S. They had no children. Henry worked as a wheelwright. His religion: Baptist. Between 1881 and Henry's death, he and Isabel disappear from Canadian censuses – or at least cannot be found, despite exhaustive searches. He may have joined the many Maritimers, including at least one of his brothers, who migrated to New England in search of better opportunities. The 1910 U.S. Federal Census includes a record of a Henry C. Harris, 67 years old (i.e. born about 1842-43), born in English Canada, living in Ward 16, Boston, Mass. He was a carpenter working in a boatyard and had immigrated to the United States in 1886. However, this gentleman was described as single. Henry Harris died on 15 February 1919 of stomach cancer. At the time of his death, he resided in Morganville, Digby Co., N.S. and was a widower. While there is no gravestone to mark his final resting place, his death registration indicates that he was buried in Morganville. Other members of his family are buried in the Morganville Cemetery, the only known burial ground in the village - certainly he was interred near them.
