Description	:	Henry Clay Byars died at his home in Sidney at the age of 83 years, 4 months and 9 days. He was a native of Virginia, and served with the 6th Infantry Virginia Reserves as a Private in Co I. During his service he was wounded in action. He came to Riverton, Iowa, in 1872, where he was engaged in the grocery and hardware business, later becoming associated with the Nishna Valley Bank. Read More	Henry Clay Byars died at his home in Sidney at the age of 83 years, 4 months and 9 days. He was a native of Virginia, and served with the 6th Infantry Virginia Reserves as a Private in Co I. During his service he was wounded in action. He came to Riverton, Iowa, in 1872, where he was engaged in the grocery and hardware business, later becoming associated with the Nishna Valley Bank. In 1903 he was elected county treasurer and came to Sidney, holding the office for five years. He then returned to banking and was associated with the Joe Samuels Bank and the Fremont County Savings Bank in Sidney. Henry was a Methodist, a Mason and an Eastern Star. At Riverton he helped to build the Methodist Church and when he moved to Sidney he had a large part in rebuilding their Methodist Church. He was a member of the church board for twenty-four years. While at Riverton Henry married Martha Chaney. They did not have children but had many nieces and nephews.
