He was the son of Eli Johnson. By 1885 they had moved on to Arcadia Precinct, Valley County, NE, with and had two more children, George 2 yrs old and Harry born in 1885 who only lived three years. Arcadia in 1885 was a new town. Three years later in 1888, the area suffered one of the worst blizzards of the century; it was the year their youngest child, Harry, died. In 1900, twenty years later, Henry and Katie along with children Charles, Myrtle,and George are found on Ponca Reservation, Noble County, Oklahoma. Son William E."Bud" is found in Johnson Co., WY. In 1910, they moved back to Nebraska and are living in Myrtle, Custer County, NE per the 1910 Census. Henry Clay Johnson is 63 head of house, married once, for 36yrs born in NY and parents both born in NY. He is doing general farming and owns the farm, free of mortgage. Kate is 54, married once for 36 yrs, and says she was born OH, her father born OH, and her mother born Ireland (later she gives Scotland). In 1920, they are residing in Arcadia, Valley County, NE. Henry C. is 72 and Catherine is 63. Henry dies in 1926. Ten years later, in 1930 Kate, a widow, is with her daughter, Myrtle and her husband Henry in Clarksburg, Yolo Co., CA. Kate is 74 and will die the next year in 1931, in California. ====== Published in the Arcadia Champion, Arcadia, Nebraska, Thursday, March 25, 1926, Page 1, Col. 4 Henry Clay Johnson Henry Clay Johnson was born in Willsdale [SIC Hillsdale], New York, April 7, 1847 and departed this life March 13, 1926, aged 78 years, 11 months and 6 days. In 1861 he came with his parents to Nebraska settling in Douglas county. On September 4, 1873 he was united in marriage to Nancy Catherine Johnston and to this union five children were born, one of whom, Harry T. died when but 3 years of age. In 1883 he moved his family to Valley county, homesteading what is now the George Hunt farm. He lived there until 1896 when he made a move to Oklahoma. However Arcadia held his heart and five years later he bought a farm in Lee Park and returned to Valley county. Here he made his home until seven years ago when he and his faithful wife went to Hood, California to be near their daughter, Mrs. Henry Hudson. He leaves to mourn his loss his bereaved companion, one daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Hudson of Hood, California, three sons, William E. of Fallon Nevada, Charles H. of Burwell, and George F. of Aurora, eleven grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. Amelia Hale of Omaha, Mrs. Mary Reposs of Columbus and Mrs. Elizabeth Emerick of Burwell besides a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon from the IOOF hall, Rev. W. H. Hendrickson officiating. Interment was made in Lee Park cemetery where the Odd Fellows had charge of the last rites. In the passing of Mr. Johnson Valley county loses another of its pioneers. Mr. Johnson was well known in this community and all who knew him can only testify of a life of honesty and integrity well spent. He was a member of the local chapter of the IOOF. During his last illness which covered a period of two years, Mr. Johnson was never discouraged or despondent but rather had a bright outlook on life in spite of pain.
