Description	:	Henry Roberts was the second of four children born to William S Roberts and Susannah Towser. Born in New York but raised in Kalamazoo County in Michigan, he married Mariah Louisa Cummings 10 Nov 1861 in St. Joseph, Michigan. Over the next eighteen years they had five children; John Elza, Hattie Elizabeth (Roose), Nellie A (Specht), an infant that did not survive, and Clara Almira. Read More	Henry Roberts was the second of four children born to William S Roberts and Susannah Towser. Born in New York but raised in Kalamazoo County in Michigan, he married Mariah Louisa Cummings 10 Nov 1861 in St. Joseph, Michigan. Over the next eighteen years they had five children; John Elza, Hattie Elizabeth (Roose), Nellie A (Specht), an infant that did not survive, and Clara Almira. The first three were born in MI and sometime between 1870 and 1880 they moved their family to the Albion area in Marshall County, Iowa. Their last two children were born there. He was a farmer for most of his life. Possibly due to ill health, in the early 1880s his wife could not continue raising their youngest daughter Clara and she was sent to live with her older sister Hattie who was married and living in the Marshall County area. In little over a year, this transition became permanent; Henry's wife passed on. John and Hattie (brother and sister) married another brother and sister; the Roose siblings. Both families would end up living in Montana after Henry's death while their sister Nellie remained a life-long resident of Marshall County. NOTE In the obituary below, the reference to 'the farm' indicates a poorhouse or an early version of an old folks home. Much later this facility was called the Marshall County Home then became the Marshall County jail. He had been an inmate of the farm during the past three or four years. He leaves one daughter, Mrs. George Specht, living near Albion and one son John, living near Sanborn. the son is expected in the city tonight and the funeral arrangements will not be made until he arrives.
