Mr. Welch was born in Virginia, Oct. 24, 1844, and came to Iowa 65 years ago. He worked for the Rock Island lines in the early days here and was chief of the Washington fire department. In 1874 he married Cindella Harbaugh of Brighton, who died a few years later. He leaves a daughter, Mrs. Frank Dailey, Washington, and a sister, Mrs. Joe Acord, Deep River. Oct 4, 1929 page 24 Hold Funeral for Aged Washington Railway Pioneer Washington, Ia., Oct 5.- Funeral services for Henry Clay Welch, pioneer railwayman and former chief of police of this community, were held here yesterday at a local funeral home in charge of Dr. W. W. Bowers. Mr. Welch, 85, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank Dailey. Mr. Welch was born in Virginia October 24, 1844, a son of William B. Welch and Sarah M. Welch. He came to Iowa about 65 years ago and worked on trains coming into Washington when this was the western terminus of the Rock Island road in Iowa. He was married in 1874 to Cindella Harbaugh of Brighton, Ia., who died several years ago. A daughter and a sister survive him. C. C. Reister, W. D. Page, Ed Bovee, W. H. Fulton, D. C.
