Henry Rogers was born in Ohio in 1822, and peacefully passed away at his home in Churdan some time during the quiet hours Saturday night, the exact time is not known. Many hearts in Churdan and vicinity were made sad last Sunday morning when the sad news was passed around that Uncle Henry Rogers had quietly passed to his reward in heaven some time during the previous night. Mr. Rogers retired Saturday evening enjoying his usual good health, but when Mrs. Rogers was awakened from her peaceful slumbers about 3 o'clock Sunday morning she found that her husband had gone to meet his God. The end must of came peacefully as so signs of a struggle were visible. Uncle Henry Rogers, as he was familiarly called, was born in Ohio in 1822, afterwards moving to Illinois, and came to Iowa in 1840, and located in Linn county. In 1849 he was united in marriage to Miss T.H. McRoberts. Mr. and Mrs. Rogers came from Linn to Greene county in an early day and located on a farmsouthwest of Churdan where they resided until 1890, when they moved to Churdan. They resided here until November 1897, when they moved to California, in hope that the change of climate would benefit Mrs. Rogers health, but not so, for on December 12, 1897 she died and was brought back to Churdan for burial. No children were born to this union. On February 1, 1899, he was united in marriage to Mrs. N.J. Carney, of this city, and they resided here until his death, which came July 7, 1900, at the good old age of 77 years, 1 month and 1 day. Mr. Rogers was converted at the age of 22 years and united with the M.E. church, but afterward united with the Free Methodist church and lived a very religious life until death. Mr. Rogers always lived close to his master. The daily walk of this Godly man will ever burn deeply into the hearts of all who knew him, as he was ready to do whatsoever he could for the masters cause. The funeral was held from the M.E. church Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Patrick, of Coon Rapids, assisted by Rev's. Woof, of Bear Grove and Gardner, of his city, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Churdan Cemetery to await the resurrection day. The bereaved wife and relatives have the sincere sympathy of the entire community during these sad hours of afflication.
