I am still working on my old job at the nurses mess, but will be changed Monday. I will work at the Exchange after Monday that is the store where they sell cigarettes and everything to the soldiers. I think it is a good job and I will get money there. They pay a clerk in there $ 43.00 a month and I am only getting $ 33.00 a month, and I am in the Army now and I am going to work for the money. I think I will like it fine. Has any of the boys from around there came home yet from camp ? I don't know when we will get home. I am in a bad branch of the service to get out. The medical corps they say will be the last to get out, but hope it won't be long. They all say about three or four months yet, but I don't hardly think it will be that long. I think till about the first of February we will all be home. I hope so anyway . They are sure a lot of Spanish influeanza here, but not as much as they had last week. They have had a good many died with it and a few are still dying with it. They have had about 150 died here at the hospital in 15 days. One nurse died yesterday with it. About getting a furlough to come home , I don't know when I can get one it may be around Christmas. I sent my fiddle home with Frank Allman. Tell Will [ his brother ] to take care of the fiddle till I come home. [ Noted from Edith ] I recall a story told to me by Aunt Lela Barrier about the fiddle Uncle Henry was writing about. She said " A man came to Concord with a wagon load of apples for sale. He had a fiddle atop of his apples. Mr. C Cannon gave the fiddle to Uncle Henry and when the Cannon's entertained in their home, they called upon Uncle Henry and his brothers to provide the music as they all played musical Instruments. " Aunt Lela " After Uncle Henry's death, the fiddle was kept in the family. " Her last recollection of it's whereabouts, it was passed from Uncle Hiram Eudy to his son, Frankie Eudy of Mt. Pleasant, NC Last letter post marked 1-6-1919 at 1: 30 am. Uncle Henry died of Pneumonia 1-22-1919.
