Muyskens, prominent retired farmer and former officer of Floyd Post, American Legion, were held Wednesday afternoon, May 25, at Trinity Reformed Church, with the Rev. Charles Boonstra in charge. Burial was in Nassau Township cemetery west of Alton. Mr. Muyskens passed on at his home in Orange City early Sunday morning, May 23, after an illness of five months. To this union four children were born, including Harriet-Mrs. John Maassen of Kalamazoo, Mich.; Lois-Mrs. Robert Hector of Chicago, Ill.; Paul of Sioux Center, Iowa; and Joe of Holland, Mich. Mr.Muyskens had five grandchildren: Beth and Stephen Maassen, Carol and David Hector and Paula Muyskens. In addition to his widow, children and grandchildren, four brothers and one sister survive Mr. Muyskens. They are Rev. John D. Muyskens of Madnapelle, So. India; Gerrit Muyskens, Mt. Pleasant, Mich.; Rev. Bernard Muyskens, Chandler, Minn.; Rev. Cornelius Muyskens, Muskegon, Mich.; and Ruth Van Engen of Chiapas, Mexico. Until two years ago Mr. and Mrs. Muyskens lived on a farm one mile south of Orange City, then moved to their home at 515 South Williams St. Mr. Muyskens was a veteran of World War I and was active in community and church affairs. He served as Chaplain and as Commander of Floyd Post, American Legion at Alton, and was a member of the consistory of Trinity church at Orange City for many years. His quiet, friendly nature won for him many friends. He was a devoted husband and father and his passing will be a great loss to all who knew this fine Christian man.
