(Waukon, IA) The death of Henry Eldridge occurred at an early hour Saturday morning at his home in this city (Waukon). He had been in failing health for several months but was up and about and greeting his acquaintances on the streets every day until Monay of last week when stricken with his last illness. His death was due to the infirmities of age. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon for Henry Eldridge of Waukon. Services were held from the chapel of the Bakke Funeral Home with burial in Oakland Cemetery Waukon. Pastor of the Baptist Church officiated. "Born in Hogansburg, NY a few miles from the Canadian boundry line, on June 21, 1862. He grew to manhood in that vicinity and later went to Bismarck, N.D. where he met and was married Nov 11, 1884, to Miss Isabelle Hanson, whose girlhood home was in the viciinty of Waukon. They came here 45 years ago, which has since been his home. "A son and daughter were born to them. Fred, who passed away February 27, 1939 at Waterloo, and Mrs. Verlie Clubine, who had been a dutiful and loving daughter to both her parents and cared for them in their declining years. Besides the daughter, he is survived by two sisters and three brothers, namely: Mrs. William Bero (Hogansburg, NY), Mrs. Jesse Croke (Bombay, NY), Harvey and Sewell Eldridge (Norfolk, NY) and Walter (Hogansburg, NY). Henry Eldridge retired as a horseman nine years ago. His nephews served as pallbearers at the funeral services: Gilman and Albert Hanson, Alfred and Carl Smedsrud, Lester and Gerwood Eldridge (Lester and Gerwood were grandsons). "The deceased was well known throughout Iowa and neighboring states as a trainer, owner and driver of race horses entered in state and county fair meetings. Nine years ago he retired from these activities, due to declining health. The funeral was held at the Bakke chapel which was crowded beyond its capacity with sorrowing friends." Age at death 80 yrs, 10 months, 19 days. Burial in Oakland Cemetery (St Johns Addition) Waukon, Allamakee, IA.
