Read More	Pioneer Dies After Two Years Illness A colorful pioneer figure in the person of Mr. Henry E. (Harry) Teeple, Camrose, passed away on Monday afternoon of this week, at the Ponoka Hospital. He had been in ill-health with a combination of ailments for a period of two years. The late Mr. Teeple was prominent in baseball circles in his youth and after coming from Iowa to Alberta, he became a well-known hotel man. He will also be remembered by many pioneers as a popular auctioneer. Mr. Teeple bought eleven quarter-sections of land in this district when he came here thirty years ago, and the first Protestant church in the community was built on his property, the south-west of 14-46-20. The building has since been moved to Ohaton but the Skafse cemetery marks the area where it was located. Mr. Teeple was for some years caretaker of both church and cemetery. Erected on his land four miles south of the present C.N.R. station, Mr. Teeples home, which was the first large frame residence to be built in what is now known as the New Salem district, served as a landmark to travellers from the south and Mr. and Mrs. Teeple kept open house in the early days and many land-seekers and travellers used to stop there. Deceased was born at Waukon, Iowa, in 1868, and received his public schooling there. He early showed superior talent in baseball and after a time scouts for the original White Sox picked him out and he was asked to report for training the following spring. Unfortunately during the winter he broke his right wrist, and was never afterwards able to play with the same effectiveness. In the outfield he was outstanding for the distance he could throw a ball and for his fast running. In 1900 he came west to Wetaskiwin, after having spent considerable time travelling about the United States, and was interested in hotels at Ponoka and Morningside. He continued to play ball in Winnipeg, Brandon, Edmonton and Calgary and after coming to Camrose played some ball here with such old-timers as Del Gouchee. In 1903 he married Miss Ethel Clara Trueman of Ponoka, her death occurring in 1928. Mr. Teeple is survived by two children in the United States, Leslie and Grace, who are half-brother and half-sister to the members of the family resident here: Homer, Morton, Wayne, Jean, Frank, Virginia, Enid and Marion. His brother, Elmer E. Teeple, is resident in Omaha, Neb. Deceased was always interested in community affairs and for some years was secretary of New Salem district. He was one of the men instrumental in the formation of the Farmers Equity Association. Mr. Wayne Teeple has informed the Canadian that funeral services will be held at the United church tomorrow (Thursday) at 2:30 oclock, Rev. M.S. Kerr, officiating.
