Erwan Webb of Summit township died at his home last Friday morning following an illness of several months duration. Mr. Webb was first stricken with illness about a year ago and gradually became worse until paralysis set in confining him to his bed. In the passing of Erwan Webb, the community loses a highly respected citizen, an appreciative neighbor, who was held in high esteem by all his acquaintances. The family have the sympathy of the whole community in their loss of husband and father. Henry Erwan Webb was born in Wayne county, Iowa, June 24, 1875. Died at his home in Summit township, January 25th, 1924. Aged 48 years, seven months and one day. When a small child his parents moved to Summit township and settled on a farm a few miles from his late home. The greater portion of his life was spent in this vicinity. He was married to Elnora Minard June 4th, 1902. Twelve children blessed this home: Three of the children, Margaret, Martha and James preceded him to the grave. His wife and nine children, as follows; May Hetzel, Viola, Edwin, Guy, Elnora, Irene, Lawrence, Alice and William all at home, two brothers, William E., of Petauma, California and Claude of Seiling, Oklahoma, one sister, Nora Benneson, of Santa Rosa, California, one grand-daughter and scores of friends and relatives are left to mourn his death. Early in life he was converted and became a member of the Baptist church at Scottsville and later transferred his membership to the Free Baptist church at Highland. A few months ago his health began to fail and from that time his decline was rapid and he answered the summons when he had scarcely reached the middle of life's journey. He bore his suffering with remarkable patience and realized soon after his illness began that he was approaching the goal and calmly attended to matters he knew to be final. He was a kind and affectionate father and husband, a good citizen and a obliging neighbor. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Jamestown M.E. Church conducted by Rev. C.E. Carpenter, assisted by Rev. Geo. E. Rainsberger. The body was laid to rest in the Jamestown cemetery. (transcribed by Judy Mayfield) March 2022
