He was born in Ottawa, Ohio, on February 21, 1918, the son of the late Bernard "Ben" and Bertha (Ellerbrock) Leopold. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater. He was born in Ottawa, Ohio, on February 21, 1918, the son of the late Bernard "Ben" and Bertha (Ellerbrock) Leopold. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater. He was a life member of the Jewell American Legion, life member of the Defiance VFW, and life member of the Defiance DAV. Henry married Mary (Herr) Leopold on Aug. 9, 1941, and she survives. He worked as a surveyor at the Fulton County engineering office for 14 years. He had also worked at the Zeller Corporation for 18 years and the State of Ohio for seven years. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary; four daughters, Delores Leopold, Judy (Russ) Baxter of Conover, N.C., Shirley Robinson of Flagstaff, Arizona, Carol Klinger of Defiance; three sons, Robert (Deb) Leopold of Defiance, Charles (Janice) Leopold of Defiance, Daniel (Venus) Leopold of Gilbert, Arizona; three sisters, Margene Ankney, Juanita Reiman and Mary Lou Herder, all of Defiance; a brother, Winferd Leopold of Duluth, Minn. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Edmund Leopold; a sister, Lucinda McFeeters; a grandson and a great-grandson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael's Catholic Church, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 1, with Father John Stites officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery.
