He was the son of Martin & Margaret Elizabeth (Suchsdorf) Stamer. His father died in 1843 and his mother in 1846 in Germany. Henry immigrated to the U.S. arriving in New York on 23 June 1856 aboard the ship "Deutschland". His occupation was Miller. He was the son of Martin & Margaret Elizabeth (Suchsdorf) Stamer. His father died in 1843 and his mother in 1846 in Germany. Henry immigrated to the U.S. arriving in New York on 23 June 1856 aboard the ship "Deutschland". His occupation was Miller. He settled in Benton county, Iowa on a farm down the road from the John Doebel family. They were also from Holstein and Henry had went to school with the Doebel children back in Germany. Sophia Doebel and Henry were married on 26 August 1861 in Linn county, Iowa. They farmed for many years in Benton co, Iowa before moving to Crawford co, IA in 1869 where they stayed until the late 1870's. They moved to Hastings, NE and ran a boarding house and also worked the carpenter's trade. A few years later, he moved to rural Adams county, NE and started farming. In 1891, they moved to a homestead near Spencer, NE. They built a soddy and lived in it for four years before building a house. They farmed there until retiring in 1902. All the while, Henry continued to practice carpentry and built the first house in Spencer for R. Roller. In 1904, Henry and Sophia moved to Spencer town and opened a flour and feed store in 1908. Henry and Sophia had seven children: Elisabeth (Mrs Adolph) Rosburg (died 1920, buried Crawford co, IA), Herman (died 1928, buried Dallas, SD), Henry (died 1947, buried Adams co, NE), Julius, Fredrika (Mrs Klaas) Smith (her husband & son are buried in Union Cemetery, Fredrika was still living in 1918 but died by 1920?), Emma (Mrs. Thomas) Hansen and one that passed away before 1900.
