Henry Malsam was born April 15, 1929, to Kasper and Margaret (Fischer) Malsam near Hillsview. He attended rural school there. He married Adeline Heier Oct. 29, 1952 at Hosmer. They farmed on the family homestead for six years. They later farmed southwest of Hosmer. In 1968, they built a new farm in that area where they were living at the time of his death. He was a member of Holy Trinity Church and the Parish Council. He was a past Hosmer Township supervisor for 32 years, served on the school board, was a member and past president of the Hosmer Cenex board of directors. Survivors include his wife of Hosmer; three sons, Roger Malsam of Hosmer, Edward Malsam of Aberdeen, and Bernard Malsam of Watertown; two daughters, Mrs. Keith (Marie) Schumacher of Aberdeen and Mrs. David (Theresa) Weigel of Watertown; three brothers, Jacob Malsam of Rapid City, Matthew Malsam of Aberdeen, and Paul Malsam of Eureka; two sisters, Mrs. Wendelin (Magdalena) Geier of Roscoe and Mrs. James (Tillie) Sahli of Buffalo, Minn.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five sons in infancy, his parents and one brother. Casketbearers were Randy Bauer, Kenny Geier, Chad and Kevin Heier, and Pius Malsam. Lectures were Tracie and Ronn Heier. Mass servers were Jessie Kappenman, Darin Malsam, and Terry Weishaar. Organists were Carie Heilman and Liza Heier.
