Rippenkroeger, 96, of 1101 Avenue D, Fort Madison died on Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at 6:10 a.m. at the West Point Care Center, following a lifelong battle with longevity. He was born on November 3, 1914, in Fort Madison, IA, the son of John and Helen Maiboerger Rippenkroeger and spent his entire life in Fort Madison. He attended St. Mary's Grade School and graduated from Catholic Central High School as president of his class. He hired on at the Sheaffer Pen Co. in 1933, in the gold nib department. He married Margaret Sandbothe on August 30, 1941, in Fort Madison. She preceded him in death on October 23, 2005, after 67 years of marriage. In January of 1942, he became a member of the U.S. Army Signal Corps, where he became a teacher and a sergeant first class of a newly formed company. His company sailed to Europe, where he handled communications from the front line to rear headquarters using the U.S. Secret Codes. He became a Master Sergeant. Following the war, he returned to Sheaffer Pen and was assigned to planning and production control, a position he held for 25 years, retiring in 1977, with 43 years of service. He then joined Scholl Real Estate Co. in 1978, and retired at age 90, the oldest practicing licensed real estate salesperson in Iowa. He was the president of the Fort Madison Community Concert Association and the choir director at St. Mary's Church. Henry is survived by one sister, Mary Ann Stenger of Peoria, IL; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one son, James; seven brothers; and one sister. Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2011, with the family to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening and a wake service to be held at 7:00 p.m., all at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory. Following the visitation, Henry will be cremated and a Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 4, 2011 at SS. Mary & Joseph Church with Rev. David Wilkening officiating. Burial will be held in Gethsemane Cemetery with military rites performed by the Fort Madison Veterans Honor Guard. Following the burial, all are invited to McAleer Hall for lunch. A memorial has been established for Holy Trinity Catholic Schools or Holy Family Parish.
