Henry Hahn Obituary from The Mapleton Press: Death came Sunday (February 29, 1920) to Henry Hahn, who for the past twenty-eight years has been in the shoe and shoe repair business in Mapleton. The immediate cause of death was pneumonia. For several years, Mr. Hahn had been a sufferer from asthma. Several weeks ago he contracted a severe case of influenza, which later developed in pneumonia. He was cared for in his home in North Fifth Street until about a week ago, when he was taken to the local hospital. Born in Hessen, Germany, in 1864, he came to Canada when he was seventeen years of age. Eleven years later he came to Mapleton, which he has since made his home. Two years after locating here, he was married to Miss Dora Runge at Onawa. To them were born eight children, six of whom still survive, along with their mother. They are Herbert, Arthur, Hilda, Clara, Hattie and Harold, all at the family home. The eldest son, Henry Jr., proceeded his father in death by less than a month. He was also a victim of influenza and pneumonia. Another child died some years ago. Two brothers, Valentine Hahn and Otto Hahn and one sister reside in Canada. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. from the home and then from St. Peter's Evangelical Church, conducted by the Rev. Vonder Ohe. The interment was in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Mr. Hahn was an industrious and peace loving citizen and a great family man. When not diligently working at his business, he was home with his family. He did not accumulate wealth, but what most men of wealth would envy him in, a host of loyal friends. He was a member of the Modern Woodman of America Lodge.
