He began to work on creating a model for a self-binder to help with his farming and spent a great deal of time and money for many years in perfecting his model. Tom Hunter, his son-in-law made the drawings and a patent was issued to Mr Henry Harrier for his invention about 1852. The McCormick Company learned that Mr. Harrier had invented the knotter, and because he had endured many hardships, Henry sold his patent and received only $100 for half interest. ...
