Funeral services were Wednesday, Oct. 18, at First Presbyterian Church in Luverne. Burial was at Pleasant View Cemetery in Little Rock, Iowa, with military honors presented. Funeral services were Wednesday, Oct. 18, at First Presbyterian Church in Luverne. Burial was at Pleasant View Cemetery in Little Rock, Iowa, with military honors presented. "Brick" Bowen was born to Emery and Laura (Argubright) Bowen on July 3, 1919, at his parents' farm in Elgin Township near Little Rock. The family moved to Little Rock where he was raised. He graduated from Little Rock High School in 1938. Following his education he worked at Horton Chevrolet in Sibley, Iowa. He married Verna Mae Arends on July 9, 1941, at Zion Presbyterian Church in Ellsworth. Following their marriage the couple lived with Brick's father in Little Rock, where he ran the gas and service station for his father. On June 15, 1942, he enlisted into the U.S. Army where he served in the battle at Normandy, France, during World War II. Among his decorations included a Purple Heart Medal associated with the battle at Omaha Beach. Upon his honorable discharge on Dec. 24, 1945, he returned home. He enrolled in a class through the Veterans Administration and became employed as a mechanic at Horton's Chevrolet in Sibley. In 1955 the couple and their family moved to Worthington, where he worked as a mechanic for a short time at both the Chevrolet and Ford dealerships. The family moved to Adrian in 1960 where he worked for the local Ford dealer before moving to Luverne in 1961. He first worked as a mechanic for Davis Motors until the fall of 1961 when he became a police officer for the city of Luverne. He also managed the Standard service station and later the Champlin service station until 1973. He then worked for Connell Chevrolet until the business was sold. For the next years he worked for Schoon Motors, which later became Papik Motors. He entered Minnesota Veterans Home on June 15. Mr. Bowen was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Luverne. He was a lifelong member of both the Rock County VFW Post 2757 and the Disabled Veterans. Cars and his family were his life.
