MILTON IS KILLED IN FRANCE News Of His Death Received By His Wife Tuesday Morning. Pvt. Henry Harrison Milton of Monroe was killed in action in France on June 18th, according to a message received Tuesday morning by his wife, the former Miss Clara Boone of Benton Heights. Pvt. Melton (sic) was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Melton and was well-known in Monroe, he had many friends who will regret to learn of his death. For some time following the death of his parents, he made his home with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Couch until he entered the army. He was twenty-three years of age and had been overseas about nine months. Prior to leaving the States he was stationed at Camp McCoy, Wis., and had served in the infantry and had also had ranger training. Since his arrival overseas, he had served in Northern Ireland, England and in France. He has not been heard from since his last letter was received by his wife on June 1st. A year ago this past June Pvt. Milton and Miss Boone were married while he was home on furlough. She makes her home with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Boone, and is employed by J. C. Penney Company. Mr. Milton was number 43 on the Service Roster of the Church. He is the second of Central's members to be killed in action in the present conflict. The pastor led in prayer for the friends and relatives of Pvt. Milton, as the congregation stood in respectful silence. Milton of Monroe, has received notification from Henry L. Stimpson, Secretary of War, of the awarding of the Purple Heart, posthumously to her husband, Private Henry H. Milton of the Infantry, who was killed in action in France, June 18. The letter received from Secretary Stimson by Mrs. Milton states: "At the request of the President, I write to inform you that the Purple Heart has been awarded posthumously to your husband, Private Henry H. Milton, Infantry, who sacrificed his life in defense of his country. "Little that we can do or say will console you for the death of your loved one. We profoundly appreciate the greatness of your loss, for in a very real sense the loss suffered by any of us in this battle for our country, is a loss shared by all of us. When the medal, which you will receive shortly, reaches you, I want you to knw that with it goes my sincerest sympathy, and the hope that time and victory of our cause will finally lighten the burden of your grief.
