Thursday night it was learned that the unfortunate man was Henry Havel who resided on a small tract of land known as the Starks farm in Pleasant Valley township. He was about 55 years old, and was the son of G. C. Havel, a former well-known sewer contractor of Davenport. A number of years ago the victim married a daughter of C. H. Baker who lives on the Dubuque road near the Duck Creek bridge. The wife, together with eight children living at home, are left to mourn Mr. Havel's untimely death. 2nd article appeared April 24, 1899 The body of Henry Havel secured near Moline by employees on a government boat. Article describes the finding of the body floating in the main channel of the Mississippi, probably freed by spring thaws. Henry was identified by the contents of his pockets and returned to Davenport to the Boise funeral home.
