She came to the United States in 1876, when she was seven years old, settling in Iowa. She married August Cordes from Oldenstadt, Hannover, Germany on January 25, 1888. They were married on January 25, 1888 in Church Town, Iowa. They moved to North Dakota in 1891 and Mr. Cordes lost his life in a railroad accident the same year. They had two children: Amanda and Augusta. Amanda was born July 16, 1889. She married John Seethoff (deceased) July 23, 1910. They had five children: Minnie, Mrs. Raleigh Morrow (deceased); Menno; Norman; Dennis and Cordes. Amanda died August 7, 1972. Augusta was born October 7, 1891. She married Paul Wolff (deceased) January 28, 1912. They had three children: Vera, Mrs. Perry Morrell; Cora, Mrs. Harold Henke (deceased); and Clara, Mrs. Fred Tjaden (deceased). Augusta died May 18, 1917. Ulricka married Henry Herman Rabe at New Salem, June 25, 1892. He was born in Germany (Magasan) November 12, 1862. He came to Illinois 1880. They had the following children: twin girls who died at birth April 22, 1893; Fred; Henry; a baby who died in 1895; John; a baby girl, born in 1899 and died in infancy; August; Bertha; Dick; Rebecca; Emma and Minnie. Fred was born February 19, 1894. He never married. He died July 7, 1979. Henry was born December 21, 1894. He never married. John was born May 18, 1897. He married Emma Schloendorf May 1, 1927. They had three children: Elaine (deceased), Roger and Neill. August was born November 26, 1900. He married Doris Berg April 5, 1926. They had two children: Donald and Darwin (Bud). August passed away January 7, 1968. Bertha was born March 27, 1903. She married George Schulz (deceased) June 8, 1924. They had four sons: Willard (deceased); Kenneth; Marvin and Glenn. Bertha passed away April 12, 1958. Dick was born March 8, 1905. He married Alma Holle June 5, 1959. Rebecca was born May 6, 1906. She married John C. Albers (deceased) April 29, 1928. They had three children: Lloyd; Dorothy, Mrs. Carl Metzger and Janice, Mrs. Leonard Moos. Emma was born May 10, 1908. She married Fred Schroeder, February 27, 1927. They had eight children: Lawrence; Cleo, Mrs. Richard Stark; Clifford; Stella (deceased); Martin; Burton; Marie, Mrs. George Gassner and Marcella, Mrs. Richard Zitzelberger. Minnie was born May 9, 1909. She married Otto Albers (deceased) January 10, 1927. They had four children: Gene; Leonard; Norman and Corrine, Mrs. Leslie Henke. Through good times and bad and that included several financial panics usually referred to as "Runs on Banks", the Rabes struggled to build up the homestead. The entire family helped with planting and harvest, often at the expense of education. As time past family members married and left home in 1930 the many years of hard work took its toll and his life. This left Mrs. Rabe with her sons Henry, Fred and Dick to run the farm. In the tradition of their father, they continued to improve the farm and farm practices until they had one of the best known dairies in the area. The herd was Holsteins of the highest quality. Naturally with a 30 cow dairy they raised hogs which Henry Rabe would ship in car load lots to Chicago, St. Paul and even to Portland, Oregon. Though it was common practice for Mrs. Rabe to prepare five meals a day, visitors never found her too busy to sit and enjoy her many friends. It was not until the last days of her life that she tired and on her 89th birthday she passed away. At her passing there were 29 grandchildren 51 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Henry Rabe died July 4, 1931 and Ulricka died August 28, 1958
