The death of Henry Morse removes from among us another old and respected citizen, who lacked but a few months of living out his alloted three score and ten years. Everybody arond Woodbine knew Henry, and none have ought but good words for him, and all pause long enough to breathe a tender sentiment or repress a tear of grief because of his passing off. The deceased was born May 30, 1840, in New Jersey. Died August 20, 1909. In 1861 when the call for volunteers came he enlisted and served one year, and came home on furlough. He shortly afterward enlisted in the navy, serving about the same length of time. In 1862 he was married to Anna Porter in his native state. After the war in 1870, he moved west, coming to Iowa and settling south of Woodbine. For a number of years he worked as a miller, and afterward took up work with the C. & N.W., continuing in the employ of the company to within 5 months of his death. Mr. and Mrs. Morse were the parents of 12 children, 8 boys and 4 girls, tne of whom survive to mourn the loss of a kind father. The surviving children are: Mrs. Wm. Barsby, Henry Morse, R.J. Morse and Grace B. Morse, all of Woodbine, and Mrs C.L. Baker of Vermillion, S.D., J. B. Morse of Sioux City, Wm Morse of Mickling, S.D., and Fred Morse of Denison, Iowa. Uncle Henry, as many called him, passed away peacefully, ready to meet his Maker and receive the reward for the good done to his fellow men. Funeral was held Saturday and the remains laid to rest in the beautiful cemetery adjoining town.
