Description	:	H.J. Neverman, one of the progressive and valued citizens of Denver, now serving as mayor of the city, was born in Maxfield township, this county, in 1870. He is a son of John and Sophia (Wente) Neverman, the former a native of Germany and the latter of Cook county, Illinois. Neverman, one of the progressive and valued citizens of Denver, now serving as mayor of the city, was born in Maxfield township, this county, in 1870. He is a son of John and Sophia (Wente) Neverman, the former a native of Germany and the latter of Cook county, Illinois. The parents came to Iowa at a very early date and were married in Bremer county. Afterward the father bought land in Maxfield township and followed farming until he retired from active life in 1891. He spent over eleven years in Tripoli and then moved to Waverly, where he and his wife now reside. They became the parents of four children; H.J. of this review; Sarah, the wife of Henry Bruns, of Waterloo; Herman, of Tripoli; and Sophia, the wife of F.P. Hagemann, of Waverly. H.J. Neverman acquired his education in the public schools of Bremer county and when he was twenty-one years of age came into possession of his father's homestead, upon which he engaged in general agricultural pursuits for eleven years. At the end of that time he abandoned farming and moved into Denver, where in 1903 he purchased a furniture and undertaking establishment, which he conducted successfully for five years. He still has valuable property interests, owning the homestead of one hundred and sixty acres lying on section 13, Maxfield township, a fine home in Denver and a garage here and another in Waverly, besides an interest in a hardware store in Denver. His business affairs are all carefully conducted and have brought him a gratifying degree of success. In 1892 Mr. Neverman married Miss Anna Pipho, born in Maxfield township, a daughter of Christ and Gusta Pipho, the former of whom has passed away, the latter making her home near Sumner, Mr. and Mrs. Neverman have become the parents of six children; Martha, the wife of H.C. Judas, of Denver; Theodore, at home; Rosa and Laura, attending school; and John and Herman, at home. The family are members of the Lutheran church. Mr. Neverman give his political allegiance to the democratic party and was for ten years a member of the school board. In 1912 he was elected mayor of Denver and he still holds this position, proving a capable and reliable executive. He is widely known in Denver and throughout the township, holding the esteem and confidence of an extensive circle of friends.
