A native of Douglas County, he was born to Jacob and Anna (Prange) Richert at Farmer. He had lived in the town of Waterville for over forty years. A native of Douglas County, he was born to Jacob and Anna (Prange) Richert at Farmer. He had lived in the town of Waterville for over forty years. He attended the Happy Home Elementary School and was the Valedictorian of his senior class at Waterville High School. Fascinated with the technical aspects of radio, he attended radio schools in Seattle and Portland and worked for a brief period at KPQ Radio. Realizing his parents needed his help, he returned to the ranch. After his father's death, he continued operating the family ranch until he retired in 1980. In 1962, he married Bertha Strand in the Wenatchee Grace Lutheran Church and began a wonderful life together. They both enjoyed traveling and had many memories of the places they visited and interesting people they met. He began playing golf, which was Bertha's favorite outdoor activity. Active in the United Lutheran Church, he sang in the choir, served on the church council and volunteered wherever he saw a need. Following his father's footsteps, he served on the board of the Waterville Grain Company. He served as treasurer for both the Douglas County Historical Society and the Waterville area chapter of the American Cancer Society. Members of the 4H recall when he lead an electrical project. He was also a member of the Grange and enjoyed the Square Dance Club. He is survived by his wife, Bertha, of the family home; a sister, Marie Nesbit of Olympia; Nephews, David (Dee) Willms of Jamul, CA, Ken (Nancy) Willms, Norman (Bobby Ann) Willms, Melvin Willms, Alan (Amy) Willms, all of Waterville; Steve Kager of Seattle, Keith (Pam) Kager of Spokane and Steve (Margo) Richert of Chehalis; Nieces Katy Warner, Patricia and Susan Richert all of Seattle; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Bill and sisters Ida Willms and Alma Kager. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Thursday morning, March 27, 2003 at the Waterville United Lutheran church with Pastor Jim Rogers officiating. If desired, memorials may be made to the Waterville Ambulance Fund in Henry's name. Concluding services and the interment will follow in the Douglas Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Waterville Funeral Home.
