Read More	PARENTS: James William Barnett and Bertha Bailie Barnett MARRIAGE: Alice May McWhinney OBITUARY: HENRY JAMES BARNETT Henry James Barnett was born in a tent along the beautiful Columbia River north of Pasco on August 29th, 1917 to James William Barnett and Bertha Bailie Barnett. He was the fifth of seven children: Thelma, Pearl, Forrest, Lloyd, Henry, Clarence, and Doris. The family moved often and Henry developed a deep love for the beauty and diversity of Washington State. On June12, 1938 Henry married the love of his life, Alice May McWhinney in Tacoma, Washington and there they raised their four sons, Bill, Jerry, Len and Don. Henry was a devoted husband and father. He was also an artist, played piano and guitar and loved to dance. He was an avid theologian. As an entrepreneur he built homes, business and community. As a traveler he was in awe of creation. Challenges were simply opportunities to make constructive changes. He was a Mason and a Shriner - kind and generous. There was always time for a friend. There wasn't anything that Henry couldn't do or wouldn't try. He ran a movie projector at the theatre and sometimes played organ for the silent movies. One winter he nearly froze when he and his brothers worked a gold mine claim in Baker, Oregon. During the war he worked as a foreman in the shipyards with a crew of all women. He built roads with the CCC. Henry worked in sheet metal and was a supervisor at Washington Steel for years. The years he worked as head of maintenance for the Pierce County Parks were dear to his heart. In 1968 Henry was invited to join his uncle, Loen Bailie, on his large ranch in eastern Washington. With a backhoe and determination, he helped to build the water mains, sewers and roads that became Basin City. With his own hands, he built his home and a hardware store. Grateful for his neighbors and friends in this rural town, he built a library next to the store so that local children would have easy access to books growing up. One year at the annual Fourth of July parade and picnic, Henry was honored as a Founding Father of Basin City. Alice and Henry delighted in celebrating 72 years of marriage a match made in heaven. Their love and devotion was an inspiration. "Charbonneau" in Kennewick became their retirement home in 2004, giving them the freedom to travel in their Airstream. Henry was a resident of Fieldstone in Kennewick for the past year where he still played piano and lived life fully. Henry Barnett was one of those exceptional men that lived life humbly and somehow inspired everyone he met to be their very best. His simple acts of kindness sent ripples of love into the world. He believed that every breath was a reason to be grateful to God and his Faith was deeply rooted. On Sunday, December 31st, 2017, Henry peacefully passed from this world to his heavenly home. His close, loving family is the legacy that he leaves behind. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Henry is preceded in death by his parents, siblings and beloved wife, Alice. He is survived by a large, close family: his sons, William James and Sharon Barnett of Tacoma, Gerald Henry and Elaine Barnett of Gig Harbor, Donald Myron and Barbara Barnett of Spokane and Leonard Bryson and Doris Barnett of Cheney. He also dearly loved each of his 12 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and his great-great grandson. Henry asked to give special thanks and recognition to his son Len, granddaughter Beki Hammons and nephew, Joe Barnett for taking such loving care of him. Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 2 pm at Country View Cemetery, Basin City, Washington followed by a 3pm Celebration of Life at the Basin City Firehall.
