SHEPHARD Seaman 2nd Class Henry James Shephard, son of Mr. Henry Shephard of Percival, Iowa and Mrs. Henry Shephard of Sioux City, Iowa, was born April 17, 1928 at Nebraska City, Nebraska, and passed away at Long Beach, California on Wednesday morning, December 22, 1948 at 2:30 P.M. His age was twenty years, eight months, and five days. James was formerly of Pacific Junction. He had been in the service of the United States Navy since April 1945. James was united in marriage to Miss Beverly Jean Halterman on August 17, 1947. Mrs. Shepard has been living with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Halterman of Pacific Junction, Iowa. Preceding him in death are three brothers. He leaves to mourn his wife, Beverly, his father and mother, one brother, Loran of Percival, Iowa and many friends and relatives. Funeral services were held in the Pilgrim Holiness Church on Sunday, January 2, 1949, Rev. George Durkee officiating. The burial was in Sidney, Iowa. Music was by Misses Shirley Boom, Dorothy Durkee, and Phyliss Agnew. Pianist, Miss Genell Feldt. Flower bearers were Misses Donna Boom, Darlene Hindman, Gelena Fisher, and Beverly Combs. Pall bearers were LuDean Fisher, Arthur Campbell, Bill Oliphant, Dale Fisher, Emil Hillhouse, and Loren Fisher. Information found in The Opinion Tribune, Thursday, January 6, 1949.
