Demarais, 98, of 491 Main St. died Friday, Aug. 10, 2007, at Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility. He was born in Colrain, Oct.27, 1908, the son of Peter and Cordella (LaFrance) Demarais. He was one of 11 children. Prior to retirement, he was employed by the former Kendall Mills in Griswoldville for over 50 years. For the last seven years, he resided at the Morgan Allen House, where he gained many new and lasting friendships. Henry will be lovingly remembered for his zest for life, his outspoken candor, sense of humor and his desire to be independent until the end. He thoroughly enjoyed his many adventures riding his motorized cart through the streets of Greenfield. He looked forward to his Saturday morning outings with Mike and Elaine, when they took him out to breakfast and then to Stop & Shop to do his grocery shopping. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Shelburne Falls. His first wife, Juanita Miller, predeceased him in 1970. He leaves his second wife, Shirley Anson Demarais of Greenfield. Other survivors include two daughters, Sally A. Peltier of Greenfield and Sharon L. Stratton of Agawam; one sister, Catherine Hale of Ashfield; five grandchildren, Vickie Bruffee, Roxann Jenkins, Jennifer Flynn, Freddie Stratton and Tim Dunn; five great-grandchildren, Danielle, Mason, Colin, Connor and Ryan; stepchildren, Carolyn Pitcher and Bob Anson, and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his daughter, Paula M. Dunn in 2002; his grandson, William Peltier in 2004, and his son-in-law, Donald Peltier in 2005. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, Aug. 13, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church in Colrain with the Rev. John A. Roach, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in North River Cemetery, Colrain. Calling hours at the Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home, Shelburne Falls, will be Monday morning from 8:45 to 9:45. It is suggested memorial donations be made to Hospice of Franklin County, 329 Conway St., Greenfield, MA 01301.
