Description	:	Henry John Fish worked for various grocery stores in the Eagle Butte area as a meat cutter for years, and people knew him as the singing meat cutter because he would always sing while working. His favorite song was "Cab Driver." The musically inclined Henry also loved to dance. Other sources for enjoyment for Henry were sports, especially baseball and softball, and he looked forward to going with his sons to Houston for baseball games. He had a tight bond with his grandchildren and enjoyed taking them fishing and teaching them how to drive. "He had a love for the native American people and will be remembered as a generous, caring person," his family said. Henry died Tuesday, May 23, 2006, at the Ft. Meade Medical Center in Ft. Meade at the age of 87. Henry was born Sept. 10, 1918, in Lantry to Dennis and Louisa Marie (Lievens) Fish. He attended school through the eighth grade. In 1939, he married Ruth Nicholson in St. Onge. On Jan. 12, 1944, he entered the U.S. Army and served in part of the demobilization unit during World War II in Germany, helping liberate one of the concentration camps. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 20, 1945. After the war, he worked for Butler Caterpillar until working in stores as a meat cutter. He made his home in Eagle Butte. He was a member of the All Saints Catholic Church and the American Legion. Survivors are his wife Ruth; children, Larry (Ruth) Fish, Lorene Walcott, William (Brynn) Fish and James (Julie) Fish, all of Lincoln, Neb., and Cynthia (Ron) O'Hara of Eagle Butte; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Daughter Marlene, five brothers, two sisters and his parents preceded Henry in death. Mass of Christian Burial for Henry John Fish, 87, of Eagle Butte, was celebrated Saturday, May 27, at All Saints Catholic Church in Eagle Butte with Fr. Korban as celebrant. Burial was in the United Eagle Butte Cemetery with military honors. Luce Funeral Home of Eagle Butte was in charge of arrangements. Mobridge Tribune May 31, 2006
