Baldwin, M.D., Riverton, Iowa.Obituary: John Henry Spittler was born near Frankfort-on-the-Rhine, Germany, November 2, 1851 and passed away at the home near Riverton, Iowa, December 28, 1930, at the age of 79 years, one month and 26 days. When about eleven years old he came to New York City and a few years later moved to southwest Iowa, where he has resided ever since, the greater part of the time in this immediate vicinity. In the latter part of 1875, he was married to Loretta Sanderson. To this union ten children were born. Elmer died in infancy and Thomas at the age of thirty-eight. The remaining children are: Mrs. Lydia Hanks of Crawford, Nebraska; Albert of Watson, Missouri; Charles and Mrs. Isabell Fleming of Riverton, Iowa; Benjamin, of Watson, Missouri; Mrs. Susie Jennings of Hamburg, Iowa; Chester of Riverton, Iowa; and Mrs. Mary Swatman of Hamburg, Iowa. Mrs. Spittler preceded him in death on February 5, 1918. During his last illness, Mr. spittler expressed himself as ready and willing to go. He was a kind father, good neighbor, favorably known for his uprightness and honesty. The sorrowing children and other relatives and friends will miss his counsel and presence in the daily routine and conficts of life. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Riverton, Iowa on Tuesday afternoon by the pastor, Rev. H. P. Grinver. Mr. and Mrs. Eal Cowden, Mrs. Mollie Johnson, and William E. Stubbs with Mrs. L. A. Baldwin as accompanist provided the music. Interment was made in the Riverton Cemetery. The eight children were at his bedside during his last illness and attended the funeral.
