His marriage to Miss Rachel Downey took place February 10, 1864. Ten children were born to them, eight of whom are living, one died in infancy, and James D Toomire who enlisted in the Spanish-American War contacted the fever in service. The children are Mrs Samuel Hugh of St Paris, Mrs Emmett Klapp of St Paris, John E Toomire, Prince Rupert of Canada, William C Toomire of Tacoma, WA, Lawrence Toomire of Tiffin, OH, Mrs LA Doan, Glenn Flora of WI, Mrs Wallace McKinley of Eris, and Miss Olive Toomire at home. Mr Toomire spent his entire life in Champaign County, and the last 40 years in St Paris. He leaves a wife, eight children, twenty grandchildren, one sister, Mrs Jane Loudenback of Westville. The funeral services were conducted from the home on Wednesday, Rev Nash officiating. The schools were closed during the services out of respect of one of his daughters, Miss Olive Toomire, who is one of the teachers.
