Description	:	He was the son of Daniel Hershman and Elizabeth Wyncoop, who got married on Jan 21, 1830, in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Henry grew up in Carlisle. But when he was a boy, he and his family left there and moved to Pittsburgh. He married Lucinda "Lucy" Buhoup in 1858, in Pittsburgh. She was the daughter of John L. Buhoup and Mary Ann Bartelow. Henry and Lucy had three children: Oliver Sylvester (born July 2, 1859); William (born 1860); and Anna E. (born 1862). Read More	He was the son of Daniel Hershman and Elizabeth Wyncoop, who got married on Jan 21, 1830, in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Henry grew up in Carlisle. But when he was a boy, he and his family left there and moved to Pittsburgh. He married Lucinda "Lucy" Buhoup in 1858, in Pittsburgh. She was the daughter of John L. Buhoup and Mary Ann Bartelow. Henry and Lucy had three children: Oliver Sylvester (born July 2, 1859); William (born 1860); and Anna E. (born 1862). They lived in Pittsburgh, and he worked as a glass blower, making glass for windows. He enlisted for military service, during the Civil War, for 3 years, on Feb. 25, 1864, in Pittsburgh, as a sergeant. Records show he was then 24 years old. He was in the 188th Pennsylvania Infantry, Company A (Union). He was promoted to corporal on June 12, 1864. He died during the war, on Sept. 29, 1864. He was killed while he was "planting the colors" (placing the flag in the ground). This was during the Battle of Chaffin's Farm, at Fort Harrison, which had been a Confederate fort. The Union forces made a surprise attack on the fort that day, and they overtook it. The fort was on the north side of the James River and it overlooked the river. He was buried at what became the Fort Harrison National Cemetery. He is buried in one of the 575 unmarked graves, from that battle. His widow raised their three children by herself, working as a housekeeper. They lived at 220 Southern Avenue. Her son Oliver became the publisher of the Pittsburgh Press newspaper and extremely wealthy. Her daughter Anna moved to California around 1898, and she married Guy Holman in 1907. Nothing is yet known about her son William.
