Read More	From Nevada Journal November 1995 Henry L. Borts Died Nov. 15, 1995 Henry L. Borts, 81, of Indianola, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, due to complications of cancer at Mercy Hospital Medical Center, Des Moines. He was born at Valeria. A retired farmer, he had lived in rural Indianola since 1977 and prior to that had lived in rural Zearing for many years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Indianola, of the Rolling Wheels Car Club in Boone, of the Early Wheels Car Club in Des Moines and of the Tall Corn Car Club in Marshalltown. Survivors include his wife, Helen Borts of Indianola; one brother, Doyle Borts of Indianola; one sister, Donna Wilson of Des Moines; one step-son, James Hahn of Malibu, Calif.; one step-daughter, Lucille Kazakes of Santa Monica, Calif.; and four step-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 18, at First United Methodist Church in Indianola. Burial was on Saturday at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery, Nevada. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, Indianola. Overton Funeral Home handled arrengements. : I was a life long neighbor of Henry and Neva Borts, living on a farm 1/2 mile from their farm. They had a beautiful, well-maintained farm on the corner intersection. Neva loved to raise flowers and had a huge garden, which kept her busy canning and suppling vegetables for their meals. Henry was an active farmer, and as farmers of his era, a friend and helper to neighboring farmers. My dad, Curtis Henderson, and Henry were friends and helped each other whenever needed. In fact, one Christmas, when we’d figured out our Dad was Santa Claus in the costume, Henry bore the suit and tricked us all as our Dad was w/ us when Santa arrived!!! We all were surprised and I’m not sure we figured out who the “fill-in” was! I’m sure Henry and my Dad laughed over that trick! There were 5 of us kids in the Henderson clan, and a treat for us was to ride our bikes to see Henry and Neva. We were always welcomed and supplied with treats, not to mention the big, warm smiles from this loving couple. Henry’s biggest love was refurbishing old Model T’s and other vintage cars, and was very good at it. He had a collection of them he took to local parades, which were greeted w/ cheers. We loved to see them, and our special treat was when Henry had time, and would ask if we wanted a ride!!!! Of course, we thought he’d never ask!! So however many of us were there, would eagerly climb aboard and wait for Henry to crank them up to start the motor. Then we’d grin as we rode around the section in this wonderful car and honked the horn!!! It’s probably the quietest we ever were as we were so busy looking at the car and the scenery from this magical car! We would never quit grinning as we rode along. And Henry was happy driving this vehicle of his youth. As we grew, we went away for college, and I didn’t see Henry or Neva often enough until I found them at Mercy Hospital where I was a nurse. At that time, however, they were ill, and both passed away. They had built a new house on the farm, which they were very proud of, then sold the farm & moved to Indianola. Henry donated his cars to the Living History Farm where Iowans could enjoy seeing them. I added this story in honor of Henry and Neva.
