Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7, at the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hubbard. Their cremated remains will be interred in the Hubbard Cemetery. Boeke Funeral Home of Hubbard is in charge of arrangements. Henry Lynn (Hank) Pothast was born April 2, 1952, in Marshalltown to Lester and Annie (Dunham) Pothast. He graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1970 and Marshalltown Community College in 1972. He earned B.A. and master of social work degrees from the University of Iowa and a Ph.D. in family environment from Iowa State University. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1990 and moved to Wichita Falls where he served as the family advocacy officer at Sheppard AFB. At the time of his death, he was a clinical social worker with offices in Wichita Falls and Denton, Texas, and was working toward a Ph.D. in psychology from Walden University. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Paul. June Louise Dubberke Pothast was born July 14, 1952, in Hampton to Harold and Julia (Wasson) Dubberke. She graduated from Hubbard High School in 1970 and Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls in 1972, and attended the University of Northern Iowa. She met Hank while both were employed at Iowa Training School for Boys in Eldora. They were married on Feb. 14, 1976, in Hubbard. They had two daughters. June was employed by Vernon College in Wichita Falls, ran an accounting service, and managed her husband's private therapy practice. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Leon Fossell. Hank and June are remembered as loving parents, devoted friends, and passionate advocates for political and social justice. They are survived by their two daughters, June's two sisters and brother. Iowa Falls Times Citizen, January 4, 2006, page 8.
