Born July 31, 1951, Mat was the son of the late Earl Wofford Brewington, Sr. and the late Betty Coursey Brewington. Not only did he teach Textiles at Piedmont Technical College in the mid 70’s, but he had a long run in the textile industry from the time he was in high school working for Greenwood Mills at the Harris Plant, until he retired from Facemate as a Superintendent in Greenwood in 2001. As the owner of Stride Rite Shoes,... Read More	Greenwood SC - Henry Mat Brewington of Greenwood SC passed away Sunday afternoon, March 17, 2019, surrounded by his family. Born July 31, 1951, Mat was the son of the late Earl Wofford Brewington, Sr. and the late Betty Coursey Brewington. Not only did he teach Textiles at Piedmont Technical College in the mid 70’s, but he had a long run in the textile industry from the time he was in high school working for Greenwood Mills at the Harris Plant, until he retired from Facemate as a Superintendent in Greenwood in 2001. As the owner of Stride Rite Shoes, Toys and Gifts in Greenwood, Spartanburg and Greenville, Mat fit many pairs of first baby shoes and put many smiles on children’s faces with a balloon on the way out the door from 1985 until 2009, when he finally answered God’s call into ministry. Mat became a Licensed Local Pastor in the United Methodist Church. He served churches all over Abbeville, Newberry, New Zion and Calhoun Falls. He loved God and served Him faithfully by sharing the good news of Jesus and His resurrection to his parishioners and anyone else willing to listen. Mat now shares in that amazing resurrection with Christ. Mat is survived by his wife, Wanda Brewington, as well as his son, Bob Brewington (Kelly), daughter Elizabeth Brewington Jones (Kyle) and brother, Earl Wofford Brewington, Jr. (Teresa). He also has two grandchildren, Levi and Olivia Jones. There was a private graveside. Blyth Funeral Home. The Index Journal (greenwood SC), March 19, 2019.
